Heat oven to 350°F. Spray two 9" cake pans or one 9x13" pan. Mix flour, salt, and baking powder together. Cream one cup sugar together with butter until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks one at a time beating well after each addition. Add flour mixture to butter alternating with milk. Add vanilla. Beat egg whites with remaining flour until stiff peaks form. Fold into batter. Evenly divide batter between two cake rounds or fill the 13x9" pan. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
