unsalted butter -- softened |
In a large bowl add yeast to warm water and let proof around 5 minutes. Add butter, salt, and 2 cups of the flour. Mix well. Add flour 1/2 cup at a time mixing well until dough has pulled together. Turn out onto floured board and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer and a dough hook to knead. Lightly oil a bowl and place dough in bowl turning to oil both sides. Cover and let rest until doubled in volume around 1 hour. Punch down dough and shape into a loaf and place in a greased 9x5 loaf pan. Cover and let rise again until doubled. Heat oven to 375°F. Bake 35-45 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan and let cool on rack. Makes 10 servings |
