1/2 | cup | unsalted butter |
1/2 | cup | vegetable shortening |
1/2 | cup | sugar |
1/4 | cup | light brown sugar |
1/2 | teaspoon | vanilla extract |
1 | whole | egg |
2 1/4 | cups | all-purpose flour |
2 | teaspoons | cream of tartar |
1 | teaspoon | baking soda |
1/2 | teaspoon | nutmeg |
1/2 | teaspoon | cinnamon |
1/4 | teaspoon | salt |
Topping | ||
2 | tablespoons | sugar |
1 | teaspoons | cinnamon |
Cream together butter, shortening, and sugars. Add egg and vanilla and beat until fluffy. Mix dry ingredients together and blend into creamed mixture to make a stiff cookie dough. Mix topping together in small bowl. Shape dough into balls the size of walnuts and roll in sugar mixture. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. You can use 1 teaspoon of baking powder instead of the cream of tartar but cream of tartar gives the cookie its traditional tang. Makes 30 servings |
