Caramel Nut Slices

1  cup  unsalted butter
2  cups  brown sugar -- packed
2  large  eggs
3 1/2  cups  all-purpose flour
1/2  teaspoon  salt
1  cup  nuts -- finely chopped
1  teaspoon  baking soda
Mix shortening, sugar, and eggs together until light and fluffy.

Add in flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix well.

Add nuts.

Shape into two rolls 2 inches across. Chill until firm.

Heat oven to 400°F.

Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes.
